THE CAREER AUDIT

The Career Audit exercise will help you gain clarity about what’s working and what’s not in your career. Here’s how to dive in:

Step-by-Step Career Audit
Objective: Identify patterns in your job satisfaction and determine what direction you should take next.

Step 1: Set Up Your Career Audit Chart
Take a sheet of paper or open a document and create three columns:
✅ What I Enjoy About My Current Role
✅ What I Dislike or Find Unfulfilling
✅ What I Wish I Could Do More Of

Step 2: Reflect and Write Down Insights
Be honest with yourself. Consider:

What tasks do I look forward to?
What aspects of my job drain my energy?
What projects or activities excite me, even outside of work?
Step 3: Identify Patterns
Look at what stands out.

Are you more engaged in creative tasks, but your job is mostly analytical?
Do you thrive in collaboration but work in a solo-heavy role?
Are there areas where you feel underutilized or overworked?
Step 4: Turn Insights into Action
Now, consider:

If I enjoy something, how can I do more of it? (e.g., requesting new projects, shifting responsibilities, or considering a new role.)
If I dislike something, can I delegate, automate, or minimize it?
If there’s something I want to do more of, what skills do I need to develop?
Example: How the Career Audit Helped Someone Pivot
Case Study: Maria, an Operations Manager
Maria felt stagnant in her role. After her Career Audit, she noticed:
✅ Enjoyed: Training new hires, problem-solving, and mentoring.
❌ Disliked: Administrative tasks, routine reports, and rigid workflows.
💡 Wished She Could Do More Of: Public speaking and team leadership.

➡ Action Steps: Maria spoke with her manager about leading more training sessions. She also enrolled in a leadership course and started looking for Learning & Development roles. Six months later, she transitioned into a corporate trainer position she loved!
